Confucianism vs Islam: ââ¬Å"Confucius Lives Next Door: What Living in the East Teaches Us about Living in the Westâ⬠vs ââ¬Å"Children of Dust: A Portrait of a Muslim as a Young Manâ⬠Alexander List St. Leo University Introduction Confucianism and Islam are the two religions that contrast with each other in many aspects. In this respect, Reidââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Confucius Lives Next Door: What Living in the East Teaches Us about Living in the Westâ⬠(2000) and Eterazââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Children of Dust: A Portrait of a Muslim as a Young Manâ⬠(2009) show what differences Confucianism and Islam have and what effects those differences produce on peopleââ¬â¢s lives. In more details, Eterazââ¬â¢s book consists of the authorââ¬â¢s memories about his childhood in Pakistan and his studying in higher school and then at college in America. Ali Eteraz is a Muslim whose religious worldview suffered changes after his migration to the United States. Reidââ¬â¢s book, in turn, narrates about his and his familyââ¬â¢s move to Tokyo, Japan, where he received a chance to get the first-hand experience of a life in the country with harmony at the heart. Reid is an American man whose life in Tokyo assisted his understanding of Confucianismââ¬â¢s leading role in the Japanese societyââ¬â¢s cohesion. Eteraz and Reidââ¬â¢s books display the contrast between Islam and Confucianism and thus explain why Muslimsââ¬â¢ worldview dissimilar to the worldââ¬â¢s perception of Confuciusââ¬â¢ followers.
